Barn House
The concept for this family home is rooted in the classic Cape barn house. The symmetrical stripped down building emulates the timeless simplicity of vernacular Cape architecture, yet incorporates contemporary nuances. Two gable ends face towards the forest and stream beyond, framing the view in a giant picture window.
The courtyard is the heart of the house, where the kitchen and dining area lead to the pool terrace. With the playroom and service spaces directly behind the main living area, the life of the house becomes concentrated in this central area. The bedrooms are in the Western wing whilst the Eastern wing houses a formal lounge and dining area, as well as a lofty art space above the garage.
